Following a worker round a hazardous environment with a hand-held sound level meter is not likely to be the favoured approach to carrying out a noise risk assessment.
The ATEX approved intrinsically safe dBadge kit includes five dosemeters, so you can monitor the noise exposure of five workers at the same time, without the need to make manual measurements.

The Intrinsically Safe dBadge mounts on the worker's clothing using either the crocodile clip (this is the usual way) or using pin mounts.
Measuring close to the ear ensures that the noise levels measured truly show the worker's exposure levels.
The dBadge Noise Dosemeter is designed to measure a worker's noise exposure in line with the EU regulations and the HSE guidelines. This ATEX approved (intrinsically safe) version of the Casella dBadge is for use in hazardous and potentially explosive atmospheres.
This version of the dBadge makes exactly the same measurements as the standard dBadge.

2. Calibrate
Use the Calibrator that is included and check the dosemeter function. This is a requirement of the regulations.
3. Start the Measurement
After mounting the dBadge on the worker's clothing the measurement can be started. This avoids creating false noise while fixing it to the clothing.
4. Stop the Measurement
At the end of the working day the measurement can be stopped. It is better to measure for the full shift so that the dBadge can calculate the exposure level, or LEP,d.
5. View the Results
The results of the measurement can be viewed immediately on the display. If you don't want to use the software you can note the results down manually.
6. Downloading and Reporting
The Insight Software is included with the kit. Once installed, you connect to each dBadge using the supplied cable, transfer the measurements to the computer and generate reports.
